Aviation Sheet Metal Mechanic (FAA Airframe) 4 views

Location: Cartersville, Georgia, USA
This position is responsible for fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal/structural parts and assemblies on corporate/charter aircraft.


– Determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials according to drawings, specifications, aircraft maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, or other technical directives.
– Perform close tolerance assembly such as shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning where variances may occur from one assembly to another.
– Lay out and fabrication of sheet metal parts using drawings, specifications, or other technical directives.
– Alteration of existing parts using drawings, specifications, or other technical directives.
– Modify aircraft structure and structural components of moderate to advanced difficulty.
– Assemble aircraft structures and components with the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, filling, shimming, reaming, counter-sinking, dimpling, deburring, fastening, etc.
– Replace frames, stringers, stiffeners, etc. in skinned assemblies established from drawings with firm callouts of butt, center, chord, station, and/or water lines.
– Pickup blind hole locations from existing structure.
– Locate, identify, and isolate different types of corrosion on aircraft.
– Remove defective parts through drilling of fasteners without damaging surrounding/associated structures.
– Layout and mark reference points for installation of parts, assemblies, and components.
– Position and align subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments and following drawing lines and index points.
– Fabricate aircraft structures, skins, and assemblies to exacting tolerances.
– Install all aircraft hardware such as rivets, blind rivets, HI-LOCs, etc.
– Strip, treat, prime, and paint aircraft parts, components, and assemblies.
– Effectively communicate with other employees, managers, and others as required in their duties.
– Maintain a safe, clean, damage-free work environment.
– Other duties as assigned.


– Ability to set up and operate sheet metal fabrication equipment to include brake, shear, slip roller, band saw, shrinker/stretcher, english wheel, drill press, etc.
– Proficiency in use of sheet metal hand tools to include drills, die grinders, reamers, files, rivet guns, bucking bars, clecos, clamps, etc.
– Ability to set up and us a variety of precision measuring instruments to include micrometers, gauges, protractors, calipers, etc.
– Ability to read and interpret engineering dispositions, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.


– FAA Airframe License
– Experience as an aviation mechanic with corporate aircraft structures.
– Complete set of tools fit for the position applied for, or ability to readily obtain.
– Must be willing and able to work all shifts and overtime.
– Possession of a valid driver’s license.


– FAA Airframe and Power plant License
– Experience with Gulfstream II and III and Lear 35 and 36 aircraft.
– Experience with cargo door modifications or heavy structural fuselage modifications.
– Demonstrate good problem solving and interpersonal skills.
– Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
– Must be self-motivated.
– Must be willing and motivated to learn new skills and equipment
