PURPOSE

Reporting to the Quality Manager Foundation (QMF), the Quality Systems Officer – Teaching and Learning (QSO– T&LO) will promote a culture of continuous improvement in teaching, learning and assessment. The QSO-T&L will conduct Observations of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and ensure standardisation to established IACT Educational Quality and OTL processes. The QSO-T&L will work across the college’s Foundation English program and will support Curriculum, Heads of Departments and other college support functions to ensure compliance with all college systems.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the QMF and departmental heads to promote excellence in teaching and learning and support for students throughout
  • Support a culture where all lessons are good or
  • To maintain the highest educational standards, high success rates and achievement rates by giving feedback on current
  • Promote new ways of teaching and learning, stimulate innovation and work with individuals and groups to address weaknesses in teaching, learning and support for learners identified through observations and inspection
  • Communicate clear expectations regarding good practice
  • Provide support and development for individual members of staff to improve their practice e.g. staff new to teaching and/or assessing; teachers with weak observation grades; staff on capability
  • Actively support individuals and teams by assisting them in the formulation of action plans and by giving effective constructive feedback, g. by providing coaching and/or mentoring
  • Design, publish and disseminate high quality teaching and learning resources
  • To support the self-assessment process and prepare for annual institutional
  • To support Quality Assurance systems which enable staff, teams and managers to assess their own performance and improve the experience of
  • To support staff, teams and managers in the implementation of effective corrective actions and improvement
  • To prepare reports as required for the QMF and Executive Management Team
  • To be a member of the observation team conducting observations of teaching, learning and assessments and audits of curriculum and support
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a high quality, productive and supportive educational environment for students.

DUTIES

  • To evaluate and assure standards of teaching, learning and support for learners
  • Conduct observations of teaching, learning and support for
  • Make and communicate grading decisions and judgements on performance in observations of teaching and
  • Formulate and communicate fair, informative and constructive feedback which will enable the person observed to further improve their skills in teaching and
  • Communicate clear expectations regarding good practice
  • Produce observation documentation that gives the person observed and line manager a clear indication of the strengths and areas requiring development.
  • Produce an initial action plan in collaboration with the person observed and line manager where
  • Support and actively encourage staff participation in peer observations to improve the quality of teaching and

  • Contribute to the planning of staff development to meet identified needs
  • Ensure that the college’s Internal Verification and Assessment policies and procedures are adhered

SELECTIONCRITERIA

Qualifications Essential

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in any
  • ESL Teaching Certification TESOL / CELTA / DELTA / TEFL. (CELTA or TEFL qualification including a minimum of 120 hours of face to face study and 6 hours of observed teaching practice – Online certificates cannot be considered).
  • Formal qualification in auditing or Quality Assurance or equivalent

Desirable

  • A PGCE or Master’s Degree in a related field of Education with an English teaching
  • Recognised assessor and verifier qualifications (TAQA or D32/33/34 equivalent).

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience of working in an adult education
  • Demonstrated experience in observation of teaching, learning and
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices for effective teaching and assessment
  • Demonstrated experience in college self-assessment
  • Demonstrated experience in the establishment, implementation, review and continuous improvements of internal controls, policies, practices and processes.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a Gulf
